Teaching Philosophy

A life making endless discoveries

I did not decide to make a career in music until it was time to choose an undergraduate major. At the crossroads of decision, I chose music - thanks to my ever-supportive and encouraging violin teacher, combined with the fact that so far, music was the thing in life I got the most enjoyment out of. More importantly, I enjoyed how it could make other people feel. I was always driven by a fascination of the unseen power of music. It could have been the unexpected friends I found in my piano students in Sierra Leone. It could have been that I could get out of washing up after dinner if I sat at the piano and knocked out some Einaudi or one of my parents' favorite film scores. It could have been playing for local care home residents at nine years old, and feeling as though I watched their troubles melt away for a brief moment in time. Encounters like these would quietly shape the path I went on to choose, and I've since built a life in music rooted in wonder and curiosity

I have found music to be a deeply human, connective force—and the breath of that life -force, is teaching. I meet students where they are, blending high-level artistry with warmth, curiosity, and play. I emphasize foundational technique not for its own sake, but as a gateway to expressive freedom, creativity, and confidence. My approach is holistic: I attend to the whole student—their emotional world, learning style, cultural background, and goals. Whether guiding young beginners or emerging professionals, I nurture musicianship through careful listening, embodied awareness (a world illuminated to me through the Till Approach), and repertoire that spans classical, folk, and contemporary idioms.

My ultimate aim: To help each student connect more deeply with the world they find themselves in. To find joy, agency, and their personal voice through music. These are things everybody not just deserves, but needs. Whether you become a doctor, a window washer, or a climate research engineer.

Experience

2023-current

Kupferberg Center for the Arts, Teaching Artist

Every spring I deliver a 12-week package of group class violin to 20 fourth graders. We learn folk songs from all over the world not just on our violins but singing, clapping and even a little acting. This afterschool program is funded by CASA-NYC.

ECPSM, Teaching Artist

Private lesson tutor at the Eisman Center for Preparatory Studies in Music, one of Queens' leading Suzuki programs. I took my Suzuki training with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

2025

The Till Approach Pedagogy Certificate

I recently began my training in the Till Approach, developed by Sophie Till. It is a strings method that emphasizes natural, efficient movements and aims to solve playing-related injuries, nurture lifelong musicianship, and help players find their unique musical voice.

2020-2023

Flying Bedroom Theater Company, Workshop Leader

In 2020 I co-founded the non-profit Flying Bedroom Theatre Company. We created musical workshops designed to inspire children to enter the arts. As soon as the lockdown lifted, we began touring across the United Kingdom to schools and theaters, and connecting children with their local music services. I will always treasure having provided the first live music experience these children had ever had.

2017

Ballanta Music Academy, Sierra Leone

I led group and individual music lessons at the Ballanta Academy in Sierra Leone, Africa. My students and I encountered many obstacles such as limited musical resources and language challenges (not to mention the intense heat!). It was daunting at first, but I got to witness music as a force that transcends all cultural and lingual barriers.

2022

National Welsh Music Service, Music Teacher

Two months shadowing peripatetic teachers and leading group class violin lessons. This experience helped me to conduct research on how we can develop a holistic approach to teaching musicians from a young age.

2024 - current

Voyager Music Lessons

At Voyager Music Lessons, I teach in-home violin and piano lessons to students of all ages and levels, drawing on my Suzuki and Till Approach training to foster strong technique, musical expression, and a lifelong love of music.”

Testimonials

I've been fortunate to have Chloe as my daughter's violin teacher. Her ability to gently insist on universal standards  regarding posture and other foundational techniques at my daughter's speed, while at the same time knowing what's  appropriate to focus on in the beginning stages of learning is greatly appreciated. There's no heavy criticism  bombarding every measure and any sort of comparison, like "I want it to sound like Maxim Vengerov would play Lightly Row!", and because of that, she can have confidence in what and how she's playing now. The most important  aspect of Chloe's teaching, however, is the relational one---it is clear to me that Chloe values my daughter, cares  about her state of mind and welfare, and takes her seriously, and to have another adult other than your parents  validate you in a world where social media and popular culture reward whoever yells the loudest, unfettered by any  civic or moral metric means more than anything else.

Chloe is an incredible teacher. As a private student of Chloe’s, I felt comfortable and relaxed in lessons, and always came away with something concrete to work on over the course of the week. Chloe will teach you a healthy playing technique so that you can prevent injury and strain. Chloe’s encouraging, nonjudgmental, and joyful approach to teaching lays the perfect foundation for learning and improvement.

Chloë has made violin lessons fun and engaging for my daughter - she is patient and encouraging. She has prioritized and tailored to the needs of my daughter. The progress she has made since studying with Chloë is remarkable. We're so glad to have Chloë as part of her music journey.

Miss Chloe is patient, understanding and attentive to details. She came up with games to make learning fun. When my daughter, Margaret, wasn’t at her best behavior, she managed to get her engaged by using games, props and simple instructions appropriate for a 4 year old. She also makes sure that I am supported with instructions and involved in Margaret’s learning process. She often took the time to make videos to help us practice with Margaret when we are confused with certain techniques. Miss Chloe is that teacher every parent wishes their child can have and we are extremely lucky to have her.
